Patty is a learning and organizational development professional with the University of Virginia. She began her career with the University as an instructional designer with the Integrated System Project, the largest administrative system implementation ever undertaken by the University. She then spent 12 years with University Human Resources, most of the time as a manager for systems and technical training, with the responsibility of creating and delivering technical training to all employees who use the University’s systems. In that role, Patty helped to establish the University’s Center for Leadership Excellence, whose purpose is to encourage, support, and provide opportunities for the ongoing growth and development of faculty and staff. Recently Patty moved to a new position at U.Va. as the lead for finance training with Finance Outreach and Compliance. In this role, Patty will be responsible for developing a comprehensive training and career development program specifically for finance professionals at the University.
Patty has 25 years of experience in employee development including ten years with the federal government prior to coming to UVa. Her expertise and interests include instructional design, curriculum development, eLearning design and development, technical writing, facilitation, leadership development, and executive coaching. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland and Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the University of Baltimore. Additionally, Patty is certified to facilitate Crucial Conversations® and the Strength Deployment Inventory® and completed the Leadership Coaching Certification Program with the MSBCoaching Institute.
Patty is married to husband Tony, and they are the proud parents of two daughters, Emily, who in her final year at the Virginia Military Institute, and who is a goalkeeper and captain of the women’s soccer team, and Natalie, a freshman at Virginia Tech.
